Facial Needling and Cosmetic Acupuncture

Whilst Acupuncture is commonly used for internal health conditions, Acupuncture is now gaining popularity for assisting with skin conditions such as acne, dermatitis, and to assist with blood flow and collagen production for healthy skin.

The techniques used are similar to regular Acupuncture except a little gentler, as we are working with the delicate skin of the face.  We work with the same Meridian (energy) lines which we use when treating the body, however we also use points which target muscles, fine lines and help stimulate blood flow to the skin.

The finest single-use Japanese needles are used, which are Silicon-coat to reduce sensation and irritation to the skin. These are gently inserted at specific Acupuncture points to increase blood flow to your face, and retained for up to twenty minutes.

What results can I expect?

Results will depend on your own skin, your history and your treatment goals. Please follow all advise your practitioner dispenses during your treatment to ensure your results are as pleasing as possible.

Is this the same as Skin Needling?

Skin Needling works more superficially on the skin and is quite similar in nature to exfoliation. Acupuncture penetrates much deeper as we are licensed to use Acupuncture needles rather than just a derma-roller.  There may be times when skin-needling is more suitable for your skin, particularly if you are looking for heavy scar reduction or deep exfoliation. Skin needling typically uses many small needles which are ‘rolled’ ove the dermis, whereas Acupuncture needles are used singularly in specific locations.

What if I want to learn more?

We will always discuss your options during your initial consultation and help answer any questions here in the clinic to make sure you completely understand the treatment prior to each session.

Research

A 1996 report in the International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture reported that among 300 cases treated in China with cosmetic facial acupuncture 90% had marked effects with one course of treatment. Effects included: increased elasticity, reduction of wrinkles and overall rejuvenation and positive results reflected throughout their body.

A 2013 issue of the Journal of Evidence-Based Complementary & Alternative Medicine regarding “the effect of facial cosmetic acupuncture on facial elasticity” – concluded that the treatment showed – “promising results as a therapy for facial elasticity”.
